Immerse yourself in this thought-provoking interdisciplinary arts project created by Ruth Howard, founding Artistic Director of Jumblies Theatre + Arts. Exploring routines of care throughout our lives, CarePlay originated in a 2018 Banff Centre workshop, where Ruth created a miniature, surreal hospital scenario, complete with paper furniture, tiny patients, shadows, in-bed dancers and musical soundtrack. CarePlay has evolved from reflections on the often unacknowledged and inevitable extent to which life is about caring for and being cared for by others: remembering childhood dolls, years raising children, various bedside vigils and musing on how we humans are or aren’t prepared for these roles through cultural, gendered, historical, individual, innate and socialized ingredients.
